Lunch with the Legends: Four Upstream Pioneers Share Years of Exploration Experience

🎤 Standing room only for our Lunch with the Legends session today. And no wonder, as four upstream legends - Peter Dolan, Diederick Bax, Phil Loader and Brian Maxted - brought more than 170 years of combined exploration experience to the stage, sharing the lessons that shaped their careers.

Chatting to Daniel Davidson, their candour, generosity and wisdom resonated with the audience as they told us:

🌏 Culture comes first. Explorers need the freedom to make mistakes, without being boxed in by groupthink or corporate boundaries.

🌍 Know your history. Understanding where you're exploring means learning from those who went before you.

🌎 Read widely. Broad, deep and current knowledge sharpens every decision.

🌏 Get the technical groundwork right. Doing things properly from the outset is what creates the most value further down the line.

Daniel closed by asking each of our legends for one piece of advice to pass on to the next generation of explorers. Every answer came back to the same place: trust, strong human relationships and doing the right thing.
